Fishing Northeast has canceled its fourth annual Fishing CT ice gala, scheduled to take place on the ice of Bantam Lake in Morris, CT on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 8am-2pm due to this weeks forecasted weather and the potential effects on safe ice conditions it may have. Rather than holding our breath in hopes that the ice remains “safe” enough we feel it is just better to cancel in advance rather than put anglers in a potentially dangerous situation. All refunds will be made in the upcoming week.
With temperatures the last couple days in the 40’s both day and night and a good deal of rain, coupled with the forecasted temperatures in the mid 40’s to low 50’s this week, including night time temperature in the mid 30’s it is the safe thing to cancel the event. While chances are the actual ice will still be fairly solid it will not be uniformly solid. The edges will get chewed away this week, holes on the ice will open up with the rains and the ice will get soft. It is never what organizers want to see but the end result is all about keeping anglers out of harms way.
